Public rebuild case · updated 28 August 2026

How an acquired Perl domain became a useful site again.

This is not a story about transferring old authority to a new sales page. It is the record of how we researched a legacy domain, separated history from new authorship and rebuilt it around a useful continuation of the topic.

Starting point

What we actually acquired.

The acquisition covered the domain name. It did not transfer the former company, authors, software, customers, accounts, support duties, branding or archive rights.

Historic topic
Perl and CGI tutorials, scripts and software resources.
Surviving evidence
Archived URL samples, external citations and a paid backlink snapshot.
New job
Help maintainers operate and modernise long-lived Perl systems.

Evidence, not folklore

We mapped the links before choosing the pages.

Unknown or unrelated paths do not jump to the homepage. A backlink is not proof of equivalent intent.

Method

Five decisions made the rebuild defensible.

  1. 01Research the former purposeUse dated archives and live external references as evidence, never as permission to republish.
  2. 02Classify material URLs individuallyMatch intent only where the successor genuinely answers the old job.
  3. 03Write new, useful contentNo former downloads, screenshots, customers or authors are presented as current assets.
  4. 04Make uncertainty visibleUntested examples, missing review and incomplete historical evidence stay labelled.
  5. 05Test the releaseCanonicals, sitemap, redirects, 404/410, mobile layouts, keyboard use, console errors and accessibility are part of the release gate.

Contextter relationship

A disclosed workflow relationship, not an independent endorsement.

PerlCoders and Contextter are under the same ownership. Contextter's technical SEO workflow informed how crawlability, URL actions and internal links were reviewed. The backlink snapshot named above came from DataForSEO, and this edition does not claim that a Contextter commercial dataset produced the results.

Why the link belongs hereThis case is the relevant place to show how technical SEO work is documented. It is not proof that Contextter is independently recommended by PerlCoders. See Contextter and its current product scope →

What comes next

The case remains open.

The next useful update is measured evidence: authenticated Search Console coverage, real query demand and reviewed technical guides. We will add those results only after they exist.

Current limitationA named independent Perl reviewer has not yet been recorded. Five of eight technical pages remain review-pending, so stronger security-sensitive claims stay blocked.
